The College Focus Program was established in the summer of 2012 on two CUNY campuses (LaGuardia and Hostos Community Colleges) with approximately 200 rising high school senior participants. These students completed a 60-hour course over five weeks in reading & writing or in math. They also received supplemental tutoring, attended college access and success workshops, and were provided with student Metrocards and CUNY application fee waivers. At the conclusion of the program, students took the CUNY Assessment Test; those who met the CUNY entrance standards would have the opportunity to enroll in College Now courses from CUNY’s many transferable general education offerings. Successful completion of these credit-bearing courses helps students accumulate college credit towards a degree.
